Speaking up

There is a fine line between friendly joking and disparaging someone for what's apparently difficult in their life.

During an after work dinner (with beer), Nick was making increasingly more rude jokes at Charlie's expense. He seemed to take it alright, but I felt more and more out of place.

"You can't say that!" goes Ella, keeping the situation from spiraling out of hand.

Ella was clearly more confident and mature than I. Instead of simply accepting the situation, she spoke up. I'll try to do the same in the future. Thanks Ella!
